Early Life and Dance Training
Bergman was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and started performing at the Starlight Theatre there at age twelve. She graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village, Kansas, before training seriously as a dancer.
In her twenties, she moved to New York City to pursue Broadway work. That decision put her in rooms with choreographer Bob Fosse, the person who would shape the first decade of her career.
Career: From Broadway to Conan the Barbarian
Broadway and Bob Fosse
Bergman danced in several Fosse-connected productions, including Pippin, A Chorus Line, and Dancin'. Fosse then cast her in the "Air-Erotica" sequence of his semi-autobiographical film All That Jazz (1979), which became her entry point into movies.
The Conan the Barbarian Breakthrough
Her defining role came in 1982, playing Valeria opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in Conan the Barbarian. She performed her own stunts because, according to her own account, no stunt double matched her height and build — a decision that nearly cost her a finger during a fight sequence.
That performance earned her the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year – Actress, one of the last given in that now-retired category.
After Conan: Genre Films and Television
Bergman followed Conan with Xanadu (1980, filmed before but released around the same period), She (1982/1985), and Red Sonja (1985), staying inside the fantasy-adventure genre that made her famous. She also guest-starred on network shows including Cheers, Moonlighting, and Murder, She Wrote, and worked as an instructor for The Firm exercise video series in the 1980s.
Her screen work slowed through the 1990s and effectively ended by the mid-2000s, with her IMDb-listed activity spanning 1970 to 2003.
How Tall Is Sandahl Bergman? (The Real Answer)
This is one of the most searched facts about her, and it's also the one competing pages get sloppiest on. Wikipedia lists her at 6 ft 0 in (1.83 m). Other biographical databases list her closer to 5 ft 10 in (1.78 m).
The discrepancy likely comes from measurements taken at different points in her career, combined with heel height in publicity photos from her dancing years. If you need a single working number, 5 ft 10 in–6 ft 0 in is the honest range, not a single confirmed figure.
What Is Sandahl Bergman's Net Worth in 2026?
Public celebrity-net-worth trackers place her estimated net worth somewhere between $3 million and $4 million as of 2026. No court filing, financial disclosure, or interview has ever confirmed a precise number, so treat any exact figure — including this range — as an estimate, not a verified fact.
Personal Life: Marriage and Life After Hollywood
Bergman was married to actor Josh Taylor; the marriage ended in divorce. Details about children or a current relationship status are not publicly documented in any primary source, and this page will not speculate to fill that gap.
Since stepping back from acting, Bergman has kept a low public profile, with no verified interviews or public appearances reported in recent years.
