Gabrielle Union and Mike Colter's film has found a US home. According to Blex Media, citing ScreenDaily, Aura Entertainment bought North American rights to Casket Girls during the festival's market.
The deal comes from QC Entertainment, the company behind Get Out and BlacKkKlansman, which is producing and financing the picture.
What happens in Casket Girls
The film is a present-day horror story built on 18th-century New Orleans folklore. Union plays Detective Shay Williams, who becomes trapped inside the historic Ursuline Convent with her partner, Galpin, played by Colter, according to Deadline.
The pair get sealed in alongside a group of tourists after the "Casket Girls" — long trapped in the convent's attic — escape for the first time in centuries, per Blex Media's account of the plot.
The title nods to real history: young women sent from France to marry New Orleans colonists in the early 1700s carried small trunks, or "caskets," of belongings. Local legend blamed them for a spike in the city's homicide rate and branded them vampires, according to Deadline.
Cast and crew
Four major additions joined the cast alongside Union: Justin Dyck, Raúl Castillo, Matt Frewer and Thomas Lennon, Deadline reported in February 2025. Dyck also directs, working from a screenplay he revised with Keith Cooper, based on an original draft by Lennon and Robert Ben Garant.
The UK connection
International sales on Casket Girls are being led out of Toronto by Capture, a UK-based sales agency, according to Blex Media's report on the ScreenDaily story. No UK release date, distributor or classification has been confirmed yet — the film only just secured a domestic US buyer, so a UK deal would follow separately.
