ADA BLOOD

Korveth here, Havoc DH main on Area 52. A little over a week before Season 2 opens I finally sat down and did the math on which of my half-farmed mounts were actually about to vanish and which ones I was panicking over for no reason. Turns out not every deadline works the same way β€” some mounts lock behind a much harder fallback later, others just disappear, and figuring out the difference is what got me to use a WoW mount boostΒ on exactly one of them instead of scrambling for all four.

So here's the thing nobody selling you urgency wants to slow down and explain.

Calamitous Carrion and the Timelost Saddle Fallback

Calamitous Carrion (2,000 Mythic+ rating, Keystone Master) and Convalescent Carrion (3,000 rating, Keystone Legend) are the ones everyone panics about first β€” many guides frame them like they disappear with the season. That is directionally true for the normal KSM/Legend path, but incomplete because of the Timelost Saddle fallback.

They're not casually farmable later. But they're not a hard wall either. After the normal Season 1 path closes, the practical fallback is earning a Timelost Saddle through Keystone Myth-level rating and trading it with Lindormi for a retired Mythic+ mount from the saddle pool. That's not a checkbox you tick after the fact, that's a harder push than either original threshold β€” 3,400 rating instead of 2,000 or 3,000 β€” and the saddle only gets you one mount from the pool, your choice. So "you can still get it later" is true in the same way "you can still run a marathon" is true after you skipped the training block. Technically available. Not the same door.

I'd farmed to 1,850 rating on my Havoc DH going into that final week, close enough that finishing it myself made more sense than not, so that's the mount I actually pushed for.

Umbral Ashes and Galactic Gladiator's Goredrake Have No Fallback

Then there's the stuff that has no Timelost Saddle equivalent, no later door, nothing.

Umbral Ashes is the top-1% regional Mythic+ reward β€” a prestige recolor tied to the Midnight Season 1 Mythic+ top-1% achievement. Miss the cutoff and there's no saddle, no vendor, no catch-up system. The window is the season, full stop.

Galactic Gladiator's Goredrake is worse, in the sense that it's more binary. Elite rank and 50 wins in rated 3v3 during Midnight Season 1 β€” not Solo Shuffle, not Blitz, not RBGs. Once Season 2's ladder resets, that specific title and mount combination is done. There's no PvP equivalent of the saddle system waiting on the other side.

These two aren't "seasonal mounts you should hurry up and get." They're prestige rewards that only exist inside a specific season's ladder, and once that ladder is gone, so is the door.

KSM vs. Keystone Legend: Sorting Real Urgency From Panic

It's not under-reacting. It's treating every mount on this list the same way β€” either full panic on all of them, or the opposite, assuming "I'll just get the saddle later" covers everything. Neither is right. Here's roughly how it broke down for me:

Mount type

Example

Normal path

Later fallback?

Real urgency

KSM mount

Calamitous Carrion / Breath of Blight

2,000 M+ rating

Timelost Saddle possible

Medium

Legend mount

Convalescent Carrion / Breath of Ruin

3,000 M+ rating

Timelost Saddle possible

Medium-high

Keystone Myth (the saddle itself)

Timelost Saddle

3,400 M+ rating

This IS the fallback

High

Top 1% M+

Umbral Ashes

Regional cutoff

None

Hard deadline

Gladiator mount

Galactic Gladiator's Goredrake

Elite + 50 wins, 3v3 only

None

Hard deadline

Once I saw it laid out like that, the decision wasn't "grab everything before reset," it was "which of these has literally no door number two."

Breath of Blight and Breath of Ruin Repeat This in Season 2

This isn't a one-time thing tied to Season 1. Season 2 will hand out Breath of Blight at the same 2,000-rating KSM breakpoint and Breath of Ruin at 3,000 for Legend β€” same structure, new skin. Anyone who coasts through Season 2 assuming they'll "get it on the saddle later" is signing up for a 3,400-rating push down the line instead of the 2,000 or 3,000 they could've hit this season. The pattern repeats every time a season closes, which is exactly why it's worth understanding once instead of re-panicking every six months.

What I Actually Did

I didn't touch Umbral Ashes β€” 1% cutoff wasn't realistic for me this late, and no amount of urgency changes math like that. Goredrake wasn't happening either; I don't have a 3v3 team and I'm not building one in the time left. Those two I let go, deliberately, because chasing a fake-catchable deadline is worse than just admitting it's gone.

Calamitous Carrion was close enough, and missing it would turn a 2,000-rating finish into a much harder 3,400-rating fallback later, so that's where the mount boost made sense β€” not as "buy everything before the timer runs out," but as closing the one gap where waiting had a real cost.

The boost was not for the mounts I had no realistic path to, and not for the mounts I could safely defer. It was for the one reward sitting between "close enough now" and "much harder later."

That's deadline triage, not panic buying. Worth doing before Season 2 opens up a fresh version of the exact same list.
