What the 2013 Evil Dead is about
Actor Jane Levy stars as Mia, a young woman who goes to a remote cabin to get sober, according to Dread Central. The retreat turns deadly after someone reads from a cursed book.
Álvarez made the film as his feature directorial debut. It opened at No. 1 in the US with $25.7 million, according to SlashFilm.
Brad Miska, a writer at Dread Central, said the film is his favourite horror movie of the 2010s. He added that the finale is built for a big cinema screen.
Evil Dead in the UK: certificate and release history
In the UK, the film carries an 18 certificate, according to SciFiNow. The BBFC classified it for cinema on March 13, 2013, listing Studiocanal as distributor. Its advice cited strong bloody violence, gory horror and very strong language.
Franchise creator Sam Raimi's 1981 original had a rougher UK history. According to Eye for Film, it lost 49 seconds for its cinema release and faced obscenity prosecutions on video. An uncut 18 certificate did not arrive until 2001.
There is also a fresh UK release to plan around. Studiocanal set Evil Dead Burn for UK digital release on Aug. 24 and on disc on Oct. 12, according to Get Your Comic On. That disc date falls eight days before Regal's screening.
Regal operates in the US, and none of the reports reviewed lists UK dates for the Evil Dead screening.
What else is in Regal's 31 Screams on Screen lineup
Regal's series spans 33 horror titles across 31 days, according to Attractions Magazine. The Thing screens Oct. 12, Scream 2 follows on Oct. 17, and Trick 'r Treat closes the run on Oct. 31.
Evil Dead sits between The Blob on Oct. 19 and Dawn of the Dead on Oct. 21. The lineup includes work from filmmakers such as John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Jordan Peele and Ari Aster.
Newer horror is also arriving. Director Zach Cregger's Resident Evil reboot is tracking to open with $40 million to $60 million in the US this weekend, according to our box office preview. It reaches US and UK cinemas together.
