Sonya Curry’s Instagram Wedding Announcement

Sonya shared her news in a reflective post that looked back on a hard year. She opened up about the unexpected death of her mother, which happened at nearly the same moment she met the man who would become her husband.

“The most amazing man came into my life,” Sonya revealed in an Instagram post in October 2026, according to the Daily Mail’s reporting. It’s a rare, emotional glimpse into a woman who has kept most details of her love life private.

She also gave a sense of the timeline, saying she became a wife months after meeting him.

“I was blessed with becoming his wife,” Sonya shared, per Suara Garut. That tracks with her note that the ceremony itself came together in only nine weeks.

Who Is Sonya’s New Husband?

Here’s the short answer: nobody outside the family knows yet. Sonya has not named him, and the comments on her post are disabled, which suggests she’s keeping the spotlight off her husband for now.

The wedding details are also a bit murky. One report places the ceremony at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess resort this summer, while Media Take Out claims a Napa Valley location. (We’ll update as more is confirmed.)

What we do know is the look. Sonya wore a white gown with gold floral print by Pnina Tornai from Kleinfeld Bridal, according to the Daily Mail. Luxury planner Kristi Lee also posted photos from the day.

How Sonya and Dell Curry Split

The pair met at Virginia Tech, where he played basketball and she starred in volleyball, and they married in 1988, the year Steph was born. Over 33 years they raised Seth Curry, Sydel Curry and Steph, and became beloved fixtures at NBA games.

Sonya filed for divorce in North Carolina on June 14, 2021, according to TMZ. The pair later said in a joint statement to People that a trial separation had led them to their decision.

“We have decided to end our marriage,” Dell and Sonya said in an August 2021 statement. They added that their focus remained on their family’s happiness, which set a composed tone even as the proceedings turned messy.

That messiness played out in public. Fox News reported at the time that both sides accused the other of infidelity. Sonya also dated former NFL tight end Steven Johnson after the split. Where Dell Curry and Sonya Stand Now

Dell moved on first. He married Nicki Smith in 2023, a low-key ceremony reported two years after the divorce news broke. Sonya has since described the end of her marriage as a long emotional process, as she opened up about it in January 2025.

Now, both of Steph’s parents have remarried. That’s a significant moment for a family that has spent years in the public eye, and it brings a quiet kind of closure.

How the Curry Family Is Reacting

So far, the Currys haven’t publicly weighed in on the wedding, and there’s no widely reported statement from Steph. But the well-wishes are rolling in, including from the basketball world.

“Truly so beautiful,” WNBA star Cameron Brink, a family friend, commented on the photos, per Sportskeeda. It’s a small gesture, but it hints at the warm circle around Sonya as she starts this new chapter.

Sonya’s story comes full circle: a woman who spent three decades as basketball’s most visible mom has found love on her own terms. We’ll keep watching for more details about her husband and the ceremony as they emerge. Keep reading Bigwritehook for the latest on the Curry family.
